Owen Stamper and Kevin Jegers each finished the first round of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in the top 15 Monday. Stamper is tied for fifth and Jegers for 11th individually as Middle Tennessee ended the round in 11th place as a team.
Stamper came out strong, carding five birdies over his first 14 holes before writing down a 69 (-3). He heads into Tuesday's second round five strokes off the individual lead.
Jegers had five birdies of his own Monday, firing off a 70 (-2) for the round. Among the players he is tied with is Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan, the No. 5 player in the country, per Golfstat.
The Blue Raiders combined for a team score of 292 (+4). The team is five strokes out of the top five heading into the middle round at the par 72, 7,204-yard Reflection Bay Golf Club.
Michael Barnard and Luke Perkins finished the day in a tie for 66th at 76 (+4). Barnard notched birdies on holes 6 and 7. Perkins, playing as an individual, recorded three birdies of his own.
Markus Varjun heads into the second round in a tie for 68th at 77 (+5). Gavin Clements rounds out the lineup in a tie for 72nd at 78 (+6). Carter Maneth, competing as an individual, is tied for 93rd at 85 (+13).
