After tossing an opening day gem for Middle Tennessee Baseball on February 17, Blue Raiders RHP Jaden Hamm was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 21.
The junior from Culleoka, Tenn. Worked with run support to toss an impressive outing featuring 5.1 innings, 6 strikeouts, no walks and no runs.
"My approach was to attack that lineup," Hamm said after the win. "VCU can hit, so I didn't want to fall behind too many guys in the count. It's super good to get that first win around the belt. This opening day win was big for myself and the team."
With Hamm's win on the mount, Middle Tennessee moved to 3-0 in its most recent season openers. Dating back to 2006, the Raiders are 8-1 when its season opener is away from Murfreesboro. MTSU's 14 runs were also the most in a season opener for MTSU since 2009, when they hung 19 runs against Missouri State.
