Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Congratulations Sergeant Brinkley

047e

Congratulations, Sgt. Brinkley

Criminal Investigations Detective Richard Brinkley was promoted to sergeant over crime scene and evidence response operations by Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh.

Brinkley’s role includes documenting crime scenes, collecting evidence and conducting the forensic processing of evidence in a laboratory environment.

Capt. Todd Sparks said Brinkley will build, train and supervise an evidence response team with patrol deputies as crime scene technicians. He teaches crime scene training for patrol deputies and supervises interns from MTSU’s Forensic Science program.

“He is a tremendous asset to our department, specifically to investigations,” Sparks said. “We’re very happy to have him in a position to oversee those operations.”

Brinkley joined the Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in 2006. He was later promoted as a detective.

He earned certification as a crime scene investigator through the International Association for Identification. He graduated from the National Forensics Academy University of Tennessee Law Enforcement Innovation Center.

Brinkley graduated from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation State Academy and completed the Homicide Investigation course at the Southern Police Institute.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Faulkner University.
