Meet Deputy Joel Beckman
Deputy Joel Beckman served the U.S. Army in the infantry for six years on active duty and four years with the National Guard.
After meeting several deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the agency seemed like a good fit for his next career opportunity. The deputies seemed to work together well as a family.
“I want to continue to serve my country by serving my community,” Beckman said of his decision to be a deputy. “This seems like the next step.”
Beckman completed three months of training at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy before graduating as a certified law enforcement officer Friday.
He will be learning more aspects of the job with a field training officer. He expects every day to be different.
“You don’t know what you’re getting into every day,” Beckman said.
Beckman’s goal is to be a detective.
