Congratulations, Sheriff’s Citizens Academy graduates
Residents learned about law enforcement operations during the 60th session of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy,
The 15 participants graduated after the 10-week class Tuesday.
Classes featured a discussion with Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh and the command staff, classes about radio communications, mental health, internal investigations and debriefings after major incidents. Participants learned about patrol, and criminal investigations, and viewed demonstrations from the SWAT Team, K-9 Unit, and Mounted Patrol.
Participants toured the jail and the Judicial Center and participated in “Shoot, Don’t Shoot” scenarios at the firing range.
Participants had the opportunity to go on patrol with a deputy to see firsthand the calls for service deputies respond to.
Deputy Chief Egon Grissom thanked participants and their families for their interest in the Sheriff’s Office and for the time commitment to attend each weekly session.
Libby Stark of the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Association invited the new graduates to join the association. Members support the sheriff’s office through volunteer opportunities and by sponsoring the “Shop with a Sheriff” event to buy Christmas presents for underserved.
