Cost of college went up for all students at Middle Tennessee State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.9 percent for 2018-19 at Middle Tennessee State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Tennessee residents paid $8,858 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $246 more than the $8,612 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 205.9 percent more than residents this year, or $27,098. Their price tag grew 2.8 percent from $26,348 in 2017-18.

About 90 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Tennessee residents. About 8 percent are residents of other states and 2 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,695 students received grants or scholarships totaling $23.4 million and 1,582 students took out student loans totaling more than $8.9 million.

Including all undergraduates (21,631), 14,854 students used grants or scholarships totaling $121.8 million, and 9,394 students took out $60.3 million in federal student loans.
